COLD WEATHER:
It was so cold this week that lawyers put their hands in their own pockets. It was so cold this week that Canadians put on an extra T-shirt. It snowed so much that I couldn't find my car or even my driveway. HONOR: Ben & Jerry's has named a new ice cream in honor of Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert. The flavor, Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream, is vanilla ice cream with fudge-covered waffle cone pieces and caramel. But shouldn't it contain some nuts? DEMANDING: Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer was fired this week, less than a month after San Diego's NFL-best 14-2 season was ended in a home playoff lose to New England. He went 14 and 2 and he gets fired, just how good do you have to be as an NFL coach? ROMANCE: A male polar bear who was trying to court a female apparently pushed her over the edge of a 14-foot drop at the Memphis Zoo. And you, ladies, thought you had a bad Valentine's day. ANNOUNCEMENT: Comedian Al Franken said this week that he will run for the US Senate from Minnesota in 2008. In his speech announcing his candidacy, Franken said, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me." ANGER: Australian rugby star Craig Gower allegedly bit a man in a bar brawl last week. His favorite boxer must be Mike Tyson. GOOD DEED: A stray German Shepherd rescued an injured women in Thomasville, Georgia, after her car careened down an embankment. She was sprawled on the ground, bleeding, when the dog, which was passing by, pulled her by the collar for 50 yards, to the edge of a highway. I wish more poeple had the sense like this dog. GRAMMY AWARDS: The Police reunited and opened the Grammy Awards ceremony with their smash 70s hit "Roxanne." I liked the joke Jamie Foxx made about how, when he heard that The Police were there, Snoop Dog left the building. The Dixie Chicks won five Grammys, including Album of the Year. Look for Barack Obama to have The Chicks play at his inauguration.
