According to a Poloma and Gallup Poll: 91 percent of women pray, as do 85 percent of men. 94 percent of blacks and 87 percent of whites pray. 32 percent regularly feel a deep sense of peace; 12 percent never experience this peace. 26 percent regularly sense the strong presence of God; 1 percent never sense God's presence. 15 percent regularly receive a definite answer to a specific prayer; 27 percent never receive a definite answer; and 25 percent have once or twice. 42 percent ask for material things when they pray; of this group, 59 percent are evangelicals, and 66 percent are black.
