Job 2:1-10 Theme: bad things to good people
Theme one-liner: evil
Job 2
Jobs Second Test1One day the
angels came
again to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan the Accuser came with
them. 2"Where have you come from?" the
LORD asked Satan.
And Satan answered the LORD, "I have been going back and forth across the
earth, watching everything that's going on."
3Then the LORD asked Satan, "Have
you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth--a man of
complete integrity. He fears God and will have nothing to do with evil . And he
has maintained his integrity, even though you persuaded me to harm him without
cause."
4Satan replied to the LORD, "Skin
for skin--he blesses you only because you bless him. A man will give up
everything he has to save his life. 5But
take away his health , and he will surely curse you to your face!"
6"All right, do with him as you
please," the LORD said to Satan. "But spare his life." 7So Satan left the LORD's presence, and he struck Job
with a terrible case of boils from head to foot.
8Then Job scraped his skin with a
piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes. 9His wife said to him, "Are you still trying to maintain
your integrity? Curse God and die."
10But Job replied, "You talk like
a godless woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and
never anything bad?" So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

Psalm 26 Theme: honors
Theme one-liner: righteous
Psalm 26
A psalm of David. 1
Declare me innocent, O LORD,
for I have acted with
integrity;
I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
2
Put me on trial, LORD,
and cross-examine me.
Test my motives and affections.
3
For I am constantly aware
of your unfailing love,
and I have lived according to your truth.
4
I do not spend time with
liars
or go along with hypocrites.
5
I hate the gatherings of
those who do evil,
and I refuse to join in with the wicked.
6
I wash my hands to
declare my innocence .
I come to your altar, O LORD,
7
singing a song of
thanksgiving
and telling of all your miracles.
8
I love your sanctuary,
LORD,
the place where your glory shines.
9
Don't let me suffer the
fate of sinners.
Don't condemn me along with murderers.
10
Their hands are dirty
with wicked schemes,
and they constantly take bribes.
11
But I am not like that;
I do what is right.
So in your mercy, save me.
12
I have taken a
stand,
and I will publicly praise the LORD.

Mark 10:2-16 Theme: marriage ; innocence
Theme one-liner: marriage ; divorce ; childhood
2Some Pharisees came and tried to trap
him with this question: "Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?"
3"What did Moses say about
divorce?" Jesus asked them.
4"Well, he permitted it," they
replied. "He said a man merely has to write his wife an official letter of
divorce and send her away."
5But Jesus responded, "He wrote
those instructions only as a concession to your hard-hearted wickedness. 6But God's plan was seen from the beginning of
creation , for `He made them male and female. '7`This explains why a man leaves his father and mother
and is joined to his wife, 8and
the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, 9let no one separate them, for God has joined
them together."
10Later, when he was alone with
his disciples in the house, they brought up the subject again. 11He told them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries
someone else commits adultery against her. 12And if a woman divorces her husband and remarries, she
commits adultery."
Jesus Blesses the Children13One
day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch them and
bless them, but the disciples told them not to bother him. 14But when Jesus saw what was happening, he was very
displeased with his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me.
Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15I assure you, anyone who doesn't have their
kind of faith will never get into the Kingdom of God." 16Then he took the children into his arms and placed his
hands on their heads and blessed them.

Hebrews 1:1-4 Theme: prophesy
Theme one-liner: honor
Hebrews 1
Jesus Christ Is Gods Son1Long
ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.
2But now in these final days, he has
spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an
inheritance, and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it.
3The Son reflects God's own glory, and
everything about him represents God exactly. He sustains the universe by the
mighty power of his command. After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin,
he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of
heaven.
Christ Is Greater Than the Angels4This shows that God's Son is far greater than the
angels, just as the name God gave him is far greater than their names.

Hebrews 2:5-12 Theme: God
Theme one-liner: humanity ; God
Jesus, the Man5And furthermore,
the future world we are talking about will not be controlled by angels. 6For somewhere in the Scriptures it says,
"What is man that you should think of him,
and the son
of man that
you should care for him?
7
For a little while you
made him lower than the angels,
and you crowned him with glory and
honor.
8
You gave him authority
over all things."
Now when it says "all things," it means nothing is left out. But we have
not yet seen all of this happen. 9What we
do see is Jesus, who "for a little while was made lower than the angels" and now
is "crowned with glory and honor" because he suffered death for us. Yes, by
God's grace , Jesus tasted death for everyone in all the world. 10And it was only right that God--who made everything and
for whom everything was made--should bring his many children into glory. Through
the suffering of Jesus, God made him a perfect leader, one fit to bring them
into their salvation .
11So now Jesus and the ones he
makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them
his brothers and sisters. 12For
he said to God,
"I will declare the wonder of your name to my brothers and
sisters.
I will praise you among all your
people."
