The Greek poet Hermessianex lived about four hundred years before Christ. Although we don't know much about him, Hermessianex left us a four-word phrase still meaningful today. He said, "as within, so without." The attitude you possess within determines external attractions. Taken a step farther, as you are within, so will be the quality of your life. Consider the experience of Sydney J. Harris of the Chicago Daily News while walking one evening with a friend, a Quaker, to get a newspaper. The vendor was discourteous and cold as he made change but Harris's friend remained polite and gave him a warm greeting as he left. "A sullen fellow, isn't he?" Harris asked. "Oh, he's that way every night," shrugged the friend. "Then why do you continue to be so kind to him?" Harris asked. "Why not?" his friend responded. "Why should I let him decide how I'm going to act?" The Quaker obviously understood the principle of "as within, so without." Only one person has the power to determine the attitude within and thereby the quality of life without. Guess who? Quote this article on your site | Views: 299 | Print | E-mail
